Ground-mount & private wire
Where land is available, ground-mount arrays deliver scale, optimal orientation and the lowest cost per kWh.
When roof space runs out or the roof cannot take the load, land can. Ground-mount arrays allow optimal tilt and orientation, straightforward maintenance access and scale that rooftop rarely reaches — and a private wire connection can deliver that power directly to an adjacent factory, estate or data hall.
A ground-mount scheme lives or dies on three constraints: usable land free of flood, heritage and ecology issues; a planning route that a local authority will support; and a grid position that allows either export or private wire supply at the capacity you need.
We appraise all three before design work begins, so time and fees are only spent on schemes that are genuinely deliverable.
Supplying an adjacent site directly over a private wire avoids network charges and levies that make up a large share of a delivered electricity bill. Where the geography works, this is usually the most valuable structure available.
We model the split between private wire supply, export under a PPA and curtailment, then structure the arrangement so both generator and offtaker have a durable, bankable position.
Well-designed schemes run sheep grazing, wildflower margins and hedgerow planting alongside generation, supporting biodiversity net gain requirements and making planning consent considerably more straightforward.
What we assess

Pre-application engagement, landscape and visual assessment, BNG plan.
Route, wayleaves, metering and supply arrangement to the offtaker.
Self-supply, sleeved PPA or export — modelled against forward curves.
